COLOGNE CATHEDRAL

I seem to visit these houses of worship a lot. I don’t know.

This one is really impressive. Huge, doom-y, detailed. It apparently took 800 years to finish.

It apparently has a debated, new secular window. (It is beautiful.)

I easily distance myself from the Christian stuff. Maybe because it’s familiar, at the same time as I don’t know enough. I can’t name even one saint. But the various crafts coming together, yeah that’s something.

I especially looked at the mosaics on the floor. There was so much of everything, so focusing on one thing seemed like the easiest approach. And I tought of the sensitive human fingertips lying down the tiny pieces of tile individually, while still keeping the big picture in mind. It reminded me a lot of textile crafts: one stitch at a time. Bright colours and flow.

People kept passing, mostly looking up while I had my nose in the ground.
